Christmas, in May? Are you serious? Yes we are and that’s why hundreds of young people from across Charnwood took part in Christmas Camp.
Arriving Christmas Eve ( Friday night) the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers were greeted with the very best Christmas songs as they approached the main part of camp and our winter wonderland. The camp started with lantern making, stocking decorations and bouncy castles! Once all the stockings and lanterns were made it was time for our Christingle campfire, where we sang Christmas carols and some classic campfire songs. After the campfire everyone left in a flurry of snow and the stockings were hung on the gateways ready for Santa to visit.
Christmas Day came and guess what? Santa had been! Each young person had presents, sweets and a santa hat in their stockings. Once the presents were opened it was time to officially open camp and await the arrival of 3 buses full of Beavers!
When the Beavers arrived they were greeted by none other than Charlie Charnwood, ready to start a fun day full of activities. The Beavers took part in sledging, bouncy castles, crafts, go carts, cooking smores and they also got to try out a brand new cave bus, which was an old single decked coach fitted with tunnels.
There was also a special visitor for the Beavers too, the big man himself, Farther Christmas. He took time out of his Holidays to meet every Beaver and gave them a Christmas present. At the end of the day it was time for the Beaver campfire, where they sang campfire songs and Christmas carols. During the campfire several Beavers were invested into the movement and a Leader gained their woodbadge.
Whilst the Beavers were having all this fun, the Cubs were off site at Wheelgate Park, playing on all the theme park rides and meeting all the animals.
Lets not forget the Scouts and Explorers, who spent Christmas Day taking part in a panto in a day workshop, where we were joined by Talegate Theatre Company who helped the young people put together a production of the Little Mermaid. As well as this they also played games of laser tag, climbed up the climbing wall, took part in axe throwing and archery.
After a very exciting day full of activities, the next thing to have on Christmas day was of course the Christmas dinner! The Christmas fun didn’t end with dinner, after dinner it was time for a show.
Talegate Theater Company who ran the workshops put on their panto production for everyone, with a little help from the District team, you can see the video below!
Boxing day came and most people spend the day relaxing, not us, we spent the day doing even more activities! The Scouts and Explorers went off site to play some crazy golf, whilst the Cubs stayed on site taking part in archery, cave bus, sledging glass engraving, rhythmic drumming and the very physical Drumba, where you do zumba with a drum.
Finally it was time to close camp and end Christmas. Thank you to all the young people and Leaders for coming, enjoy the photos!
