Hooray, Hooray it’s a Beaver Holiday!

The first weekend in July saw 266 Beavers, Leaders and Parents travel around the world in a weekend?

This years theme for the Beaver 1-2-1 Camp was Hooray, Hooray it’s a Beaver Holiday! 1-2-1 Camp is where Beavers bring a grown up to camp to share, for many of them, their first night away away from home in tents.

Nine colonies from the District took part in the camp with each colony having a holiday destination to create a gateway and plan an activity around.

Here’s destinations and the activities that each colony was given:

• Wolds – Blackpool – Donkey Derby/Building Tower in sand pits- with kiss me quick hats & sunglasses
• Barrow Allison – Australia – Boomerang making & flying
• Barrow Wilford – Seychelles – Pirate Hats/ Eye patches & treasure Hunt
• Anstey – Brazil – Carnival theme, Conga line & limbo
• Syston – Ireland – Irish Stew/Soda bread cooking/Gold archery
• Mountsorrel – Sweden – Wooden Viking ship making
• Sileby – London – Making Union Jack flags & throwing balls onto the London eye
• Woodhouse – Hawaii – Coconut shy & Pineapple hunt in a ball pool
• Rothley Babington – Russia – Russian doll fancy dress & “vodka” shots
• Rothley Macaulay – Paris – French boules

As you can see there was lots of activities for the Beavers and Parents to take part in. On top of all this, there were bouncy castles a campfire and a tug of war!

That wasn’t all the fun of the weekend, there were also several awards given out for the Best Activity, Best Gateway, Politest Colony and Tug of War Champions. Take a look at our winners:

• Tug of war champions – Woodhouse Eaves Dads

On top of these awards, several Beavers were presented with their Bronze Chief Scout Awards:

• 5 from Wolds
• 3 from Rothley Macaulay – Which were the first Bronze awards to be presented for this new colony!
• 4 from Barrow Allison
