Dear Charnwood/Loughborough District Scout Group,
Currently the Oaks Scout Campsite is undergoing a few changes. One of these is to improve our connection with both Charnwood and Loughborough Districts. As you may not be aware, the Oaks is owned by the districts and we would like to offer more to all groups. One of which is to offer lower fees for staying at the site and use of facilities.
To make the site feel more personal to the districts we are updating the gateway entrance onto the site. Presently this is a featureless poled construction which those using the site pass through onto the camping field. We would like to make this more of a welcoming feature to all users and show off the areas scout groups at the same time.
The idea is that each section within each district group are being offered the opportunity to make and decorate their own acorn shaped plaque (as oak trees grow acorns), these will then be mounted onto the gateway. Each scout group will receive this letter along with a template for them to design their own plaque. The plaque needs to be made from plywood and decorated in a way that individually represents your section of your group.
If all groups respond then we will be looking to display 80+ Acorn plaques which will make a great Welcome Gate Way (see below for the artists impression).
Requirements:
• The design must be made using the given template provided, with the stem of the acorn at the top. The design is in an A4 format to enable us to fit them all on the frame, please keep to the template size
• The design should contain your group/explorer unit name
• The design should represent your group in some way to make it unique (e.g. necker colours, or representation of the village)
• When making the plaque, please use ideally a 12mm outdoor plywood keeping to the template size when cutting
• Outdoor paint or varnish needs to be used, all to ensure the plaques longevity
Once you have completed your sections plaque please contact Ben our bookings secretary who will arrange to bring your section along one evening where we will mount and present the plaque on the new gateway.
You may wish to take this opportunity to book an overnight stay in celebration and view the facilities we offer using your discounted rate.
If you have any questions on the process, contact Ben by email on ben.gane@oakscampsite.org.uk.
We hope you all have fun coming up with your designs and look forward to seeing what each group produces!
Yours in Scouting
The Oaks Campsite Committee
