Milo a Beaver from Sileby completed a challenge he’d been working really hard towards over the last year. He cycled 103 miles from Sileby to Skegness and raised over £1600 (inc gift aid) for charity.

Milo loves cycling and set himself the challenge of completing a massive bike ride for his Silver Blue Peter badge and for charity this year. Throughout the winter and spring, he’s been cycling lots of miles (over 1000 miles to date) every weekend around the local lanes of Charnwood, Belvoir, Wreake and Rutland to get ready for this.

He also wanted to use this challenge to raise money for the charities he loved. He set himself a target of £100 to raise money for 3 charities – The Trussell Trust, The RSPB and World Bicycle Relief. The charities are close to his heart. The RSPB helps protect the birds he loves. World Bicycle Relief provides Buffalo bikes for people in developing countries, and helps share his love of cycling. The Trussell Trust he noticed provides food-box support for the less fortunate families at School.

Milo set off with his dad Dom at 07:30 from Sileby and with total positivity and resilience all the way, they reached Skegness just in time for the 6.15pm train home. The total trip was 103 miles and the route took them past Belvoir Castle, Sleaford, Woodhall Spa, Tattershall Castle, through the long straight fens of Lincolnshire and then to the sea-front at Skeggy. A fantastic adventure.

Milo was also blown away by how much money he raised. He’s received, at last count, £1629 with gift aid! The money will be split 3 ways between the charities, so with the gift aid included that’s over £500 each. For World Bicycle Relief that means at least 4 buffalo bikes (£120 each), many food boxes for the Trussell Trust and various projects for the RSPB. Milo is really proud of what he achieved.

Milo has really found something he loves, and also races every week. He’s undefeated in every Under 8 cycle race he’s competed in this year and is top of the Mallory Park Road Race league by a country mile. A very determined, competitive and focussed young man on the bike.

Upon finding out about this amazing accomplishment, Milo was awarded the Commissioners Commendation Award, this is a special award given by the District Commissioner to someone who goes above and beyond and does something extraordinary and Milo definitely did something extraordinary.

The award was presented by Assistant District Commissioner for Beavers Sandy at the end of term meeting for Sileby Beavers and Milo is the first Beaver to ever receive this award in Charnwood District.
